The Team

Our team is one of the oldest teams in our product organization: we are News!

You'll start by tackling the legacy foundation, clearing the path to lay a new, state-of-the-art groundwork. From there, you'll be a key player in igniting a new era of innovation, pushing the boundaries of what's possible and shaping the future of our central product.

What you’ll be doing

  • Responsible for improving and developing our web-based clients and RESTful web services.

  • Work in a cross-functional Scrum team and produce high-quality and tested code.

  • Give and receive valuable feedback in our code review process and continuously learn and share knowledge with your peers.

  • Being open to feedback and taking ownership of your work are essential.

  • You work iteratively, frequently pushing code, ensuring a good CI/CD pipeline, and automating where possible.

What you need to be successful

General

  • Expert knowledge of REST APIs and their design

  • Experience in writing unit-tests and end-to-end (e2e) tests

  • Initial experience in architectural design, writing and collaborating on ADRs with Staff Engineers, and shaping long-term technical direction, would be beneficial

  • Ideally familiar with Docker, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, Prometheus or Grafana

Frontend

  • Proficient experience in JavaScript and TypeScript

  • Mastery of React, and comfortable working without a framework when needed

  • Awareness of Accessibility (a11y) best practices

Backend

  • You are fluent in Kotlin (or Java) and comfortable driving backend design and implementation with it

  • Comfortable working with databases (MongoDB is a plus)

  • Experience with Golang is a plus

Mindset & Collaboration

  • You value clean code, testing, and continuous learning

  • Prior experience in an agile/Scrum environment

  • Passion for the things you build and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex, ambiguous issues with limited guidance

  • Knowledge of product discovery, especially evaluating feasibility collaboratively within a team, is a major plus

  • You enjoy working with user stories and shaping solutions that actually solve user problems, not just coding tasks

  • Very good English communication skills

  • Openness towards AI technologies and curiosity about how they can improve our product and workflows
